Stamps (61) -

Stamp Comment: Bought this brand new back in 2018. Book is now in Iowa.
Passport No: 2023001330
Title: Building Bitcoin Websites: A beginner's guide to Bitcoin focused web development
Stamp Date: October 29, 2023, 12:18 am

Stamp Comment: I remember I picked this up in 2008 not too long after it was available in paperback. There's a couple of store stamps (ink stamps) inside the book (please see pictures). One is from "The Book Trader" (in Marion, Iowa, on Collins Road which is the border of Cedar Rapids and Marion in that specific area) and the other is from "Basically Books" in Cedar Rapids (on Edgewood Road). I got the book from The Book Trader. I checked online today and was sad to learn that both stores are now permanently closed.

Stamp Comment: I don't remember when (years ago) or where I got this book. I think (?) it was probably at a thrift store in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Maybe the Goodwill or the Salvation Army?

Stamp Comment: Bought this one new at a bookstore in 2010 or maybe 2011 in Tucson, Arizona. I lugged it around the US for a while and now it's here on the island. I think it'll remain here in my private library.

Stamp Date: April 13, 2021, 8:37 pm

Stamp Comment: I've read Michael Crichton's Rising Sun a few times now. I've got a couple copies of this book I'm not sure where they are. I bought this one online last summer because I wanted to quote the book but couldn't find it.
Passport No: 2019001300
Title: Rising Sun
Stamp Date: December 31, 2019, 12:13 am

Stamp Comment: Bought this book I think in 2006? Maybe before that, I don't exactly remember. I used to experience what was called 'a witch on my back' or 'witch riding' or what I later learned were sometimes referred to as 'night terrors' or 'sleep paralysis.' Haven't had one in a long time (I think). I once drafted a survey and handed it out to co-workers and anyone else I could get interested in it asking if they'd ever experienced this and by what name it was known as to them and if they were religious or not (and several other questions).
Passport No: 2019001299

Title: Spy Master: A Thriller
Stamp Date: October 28, 2018, 12:16 am

Stamp Comment: Got this from a friend today. They picked it up at a rummage sale at Trinity Episcopal Church. Apparently books were being sold by the box ($3 for a box full of books!). I'm keeping this book for my own collection and will soon (hopefully within a few days) apply for passports for the rest of them and then disperse them out into the wild! (Please also note the existing "Bear Student Stores" ink stamp in the book! What are the chances of that! Now there's two bears right inside the front cover!)
Passport No: 2018001285
Title: Child of the Dark: The Diary of Carolina Maria de Jesus
Stamp Date: October 6, 2018, 3:05 pm

Stamp Comment: Dropped this and three other books off at a bus stop. Hopefully someone will take them home, or read them during their commute to work, or take them home to their bookshelf or give them to other readers!

Title: Unshaken: Rising from the Ruins of Haiti's Hotel Montana
Stamp Date: September 18, 2018, 9:28 pm

Stamp Comment: Dropped this and three other books off at a bus stop. Hopefully someone will take them home, or read them during their commute to work, or take them home to their bookshelf or give them to other readers! Also wanted to note here that I like finding these books which already have inscriptions inside (who knows, maybe one of the parties will find the book through the site!). The inscription reads, "To Joseph + Amanda - Our good two friends Bill..." (I'm not able make out the other name/word).
Passport No: 2018001284
Title: The Devil's Muse (Maureen Coughlin novel)
Stamp Date: September 18, 2018, 9:26 pm

Stamp Comment: Found this and a handful of other interesting (and in very good shape) books at a Goodwill here in town. I'm going to give this away in the next few days (probably leave it on a table somewhere) and then add another stamp here with related details. Also wanted to note here today that I really like finding these books which already have inscriptions inside (who knows, maybe one of the parties will find the book through the site!). The inscription reads, "Christmas 2006 To Chap - Much love from the Clancy's Susan, Mark, Emma + Liam xo" When I first saw 'Clancy' I immediately though of author Tom Clancy (doesn't appear to be him or immediately family).
Passport No: 2018001259
Title: The Meaning of Tingo and other Extraordinary Words From Around the World
Stamp Date: August 18, 2018, 11:03 pm

Stamp Comment: Bought this brand new (it was just published last month -June 18th, 2018) and I'm thinking about purchasing a box of them and then doing another giveaway. I'll read it first (I just got it) and then decide about a giveaway. A lot of books about 'blockchain' are likely misleading and filled with very, very, little understanding (regardless of whether or not they're praising it or hating it).. However, I'd liked that the title of this one indicates that Google will begin to decline (if it isn't already).
Passport No: 2018001258
Title: Life After Google: The fall of big data and the rise of the blockchain economy
Stamp Date: July 31, 2018, 11:01 pm

Stamp Comment: I bought this on Amazon early last month (Feb.) and well I still haven't had time to read it. That's not because I'm not reading anything at the moment because I'm reading A LOT at the moment! Hopefully I can squeeze this book into my reading schedule relatively soon. I did read Volume One back in 2016. If I get more copies of Volume Two I'll give them away for free!
Passport No: 2018001257
Title: The Internet of Money - Volume Two

Title: Left Neglected
Stamp Date: February 26, 2016, 11:36 pm

Stamp Comment: I bought this at a used book store while I was out state a few months ago in Tennessee. I paid less than a dollar for it. It doesn't appear to be a book that I really want to spend minutes of my life reading but it caught my attention because its a half read / half watch book. Part of the story is told by reading the book and then at certain segments within the book readers are directed to an online video. To follow the events in the story you need to both read the book and watch the videos. While it's not likely that I will do either (at for this particular book) it is my position that it may be a cool book to add to the Nandibear site. I'd like to donate this book or give it away but I'm not sure that many readers would be interested in owning it. What I'll probably do is sneak it into a used book store here and leave it on shelf.
Passport No: 2016001233
Title: The Crossbones (Skeleton Creek #3)
Stamp Date: February 8, 2016, 4:32 pm

Title: Heart of Darkness
Stamp Date: October 31, 2015, 12:19 am

Stamp Comment: I found this brand new book behind the same store that I sometimes find books being disposed of at. This one had a sticky note attached to it (which I removed) stating that it should be marked out (i.e.,thrown away) because there is small rip in the jacket. Somewhat puzzling is the fact that this book does not need it's jacket because the hardcover itself is a wrapped-cover which looks identical to the dust jacket, including ISBN & barcode (see pics on passport view). I also found it interesting that this books was printed in the Dubai (the country). I've never before seen a USA-published book (or any book) that was printed in Dubai.
Passport No: 2015001129
Title: Sherlock: The facts and fiction behind the world's most famous detective
Stamp Date: October 19, 2015, 11:53 am

Stamp Comment: I know of a place that routinely disposes of new books in the alley directly behind their store. I don't really know for certain why they don't give the books away to libraries or charity or why they don't recycle them. However, I trust that the store has legitimate reasons for the actions. In any event, I rescued this book before it's free ride to the dump arrived.
